Local challenge

How might we transform District C and the city center through creative approaches that enhance everyday urban experiences, creating inclusive, comfortable, and climate-responsive public spaces that strengthen cultural identity and improve well-being, while respecting the area’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site? We will used creative and artistic approaches for on-site ideation in a transdisciplinary setting.

1. How might urban landscapes in District C and the city center be designed to enhance everyday experiences for residents and visitors?
2. What strategies could improve accessibility, safety, and inclusivity in public spaces while preserving cultural identity?
3. How can temporary and permanent interventions foster social interaction, creativity, and well-being?
4. Which examples from other cities could inspire experiential landscape design in Guimarães, and why?

Expected outcomes for the forum publication

• A reflective essay about the experiential / artistic approach
• Possibly including a visual essay or other forms of aesthetic production
• A reflection on good practices, lessons for education and possible further research questions
